How To Improve Your Self-Esteem
The society we live in cruelly tries to decide who is worthy and who isn’t. We see it in families, on the TV, among friends, and even at work. There seems to be an unending number of hoops we need to jump in order to be acceptable. For many people, these messages have caused self-doubt and low self-esteem. If you’re dealing with low self-worth, you’re not alone.
The philosopher, Descartes, is famous for the saying, “I think, therefore I am”, suggesting that who we are is a product of how we think. This can be true, but I’d like to say that how we see ourselves is THE product of our thoughts. If you’re dealing with low self-worth because you have all these negative thoughts about yourself, it only makes sense that you can use your thoughts to boost your self-worth.
Counter the Negative Thoughts
It’s easier to believe that you’re worthy of love, affection, and success if you can start by dropping the thoughts in your subconscious. This is because your low self-esteem is a direct response to the things your mind tells you. Look at the following expressions:
If this is all you think about, it’s going to be pretty tough getting your self-worth to grow. So start saying the right things to yourself.
These are some positive thoughts that you can use to counter the negatives when they come up. You need to have an arsenal of encouraging things to say to yourself frequently until they seep into your subconscious.
Your Thoughts Don't Define You
Please listen to me. You are NOT your thoughts. You can feel the way you do because of the things you ponder about in your mind, but that doesn’t define who you are. Winning the war of the mind requires believing what you want in spite of how you feel. Right now you may be feeling pretty low, and that’s because of the negative thoughts in your head, but you can redefine your truth. You can coach your mind to think positive thoughts by doing the following.
You know, when you treat the good thoughts as paramount and the bad thoughts as fleeting, your mind slowly but surely begins to prioritize the good thoughts and that’s when you begin to believe in them.
Remember, negative thoughts thrive when there are no positives to counter them. So build up our confidence with the right words and focus on them alone.
